Each year, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation presents a series of awards honoring the exemplary work of individuals in preserving Marine Corps history. Sponsored by General Dynamics and hosted by MCHF President and CEO Lt.Gen. Ron Christmas, the 2010 award presentation was held on Saturday, April 24 at the National Museum of the Marine Corps and included guest of honor Gen. James F. Amos, Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps.
2010 Awardees include:
The Master Sergeant Tom Bartlett Award
The Master Sergeant Tom Bartlett Award, named for the late Managing Editor of Leatherneck magazine and leading Marine photojournalist, is given for the year’s best still photography related to a Marine Corps subject.

The General Roy S. Geiger Award
The General Roy S. Geiger Award was established by Colonel G.F. Robert Hanke, USMCR, in memory of his father, Wing Commander Ralph Hanke, Royal Air Force. It is named for General Geiger, the fifth designated naval aviator in Marine Corps history, who commanded both air and ground units during World War II. The award is given to the author of the best article published during the preceding year in the Marine Corps Gazette in the field of Marine Corps aviation.
2010 Recipient:
Colonel L.R. "Migs" Roberts, for his article, titled "Unmanned UF-35B Lighting II" (published in the June 2009 issue of Marine Corps Gazette)
The General Wallace M. Greene Jr. Award
The General Wallace M. Greene, Jr. Award is named for the 23rd Commandant of the Marine Corps, who during his distinguished Marine Corps career gave stature to the historical program, as we know it today. He is a founding member of the Heritage Foundation. The Greene Award is given to the author of the outstanding nonfiction book, published during the preceding three years pertinent to Marine Corps history.

Mr. Bob Drury and Mr. Tom Clavin, co-authors of "The Last Stand of Fox Company, A True Story of Marines in Combat"
The Colonel Julia E. Hamblet Award
The Colonel Julia E. Hamblet Award is named for the longest serving Director of Women Marines. The award is funded by a bequest from the estate of Lotus Mort and judged by the Women Marines Association. It is given to the individual or team who has done the most to further the recognition of the history of women who have earned the title Marine.
2010 Recipient:
Ms. Nancy Wilt
The Major Norman Hatch Award
The Major Norman Hatch Award, named for the pioneer combat camera team leader whose color motion picture footage at Tarawa and Iwo Jima, among many other accomplishments, brought the Marine Corps story vividly to the American people, is given for the best mini-documentary (longer than four minutes) videotape dealing with historical or current Marine Corps subjects.

The Colonel Robert Debs Heinl, Jr. Award
The Colonel Robert Debs Heinl, Jr. Award is given in memory of the distinguished Marine Corps officer, journalist, and historian. He was a founder of the Heritage Foundation and author of Soldiers of the Sea. The award is given to the author of the best article pertinent to Marine Corps history published in a newspaper, magazine, journal, or other periodical during the preceding year.
2010 Recipient:
Lieutenant Colonel Otto Lehrack, USMC (Ret.), for his article "Dai Do, The Strategic Battle for Dong Ha" (published in the March 2009 issue of Leatherneck Magazine)
The Colonel John H. Magruder III Award
The Colonel John H. Magruder III Award is named for the first director of the Marine Corps Museum. It is given to an individual, institution, or organization for excellence in depicting Marine Corps history in exhibits or displays in a museum or similar setting.
2010 Recipient:
Mr. Gilles Lagin, for his extensive exhibition marking the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Belleau Wood on display at the Town Hall of Belleau. A French native, Mr. Lagin created a Belleau Wood museum on his property in France
The Colonel John W. Thomason, Jr. Award
The Colonel John W. Thomason, Jr. Award was established in memory of this decorated combat officer, known for his artwork illustrating Marines in World War I, China and Latin America. The award is given for excellence in the fine or applied arts in depicting the historic or contemporary Marine Corps.
2010 Recipient:
Sergeant Kristopher J. Battles, USMCR, for his work documenting Marines in Afghanistan as well as Marine Corps humanitarian efforts in Haiti.
The Distinguished Service Award
The Distinguished Service Award is given in recognition of extraordinary contributions over an extended period to the work of the Foundation and to Marine Corps history.

Heritage Service Award
The Heritage Award is given in recognition of those who have provided unique and significant service to the Heritage Foundation in the fulfillment of its mission.

General John A. LeJeune Recognition for Exemplary Leadership
Initiated by the Foundation in 2010, the General John A. LeJeune Recognition for Exemplary Leadership is given to an individual who demonstrates leadership in their chosen profession, epitomizing the core Marine Corps values of Honor, Courage and Commitment.
